Let’s just get this out of the way…
Last evening, we saw a variant of Tesla’s new Roadster model. It is an unbelievable mash-up of ultra-performance sports car, super computer, energy dispensing device, vacuum, and rocket ship.
Tesla will not deliver Roadsters until 2028, though customers may pre-order today.
We’ll risk saying that building FAVR Programs around this model isn’t possible. The Roadster will exceed the vehicle value limit the IRS sets each year. The vehicle value limit puts a ceiling on the depreciation included in a tax-free reimbursement.
The good news for those needing two G’s of down force for high speed cornering or 0-60 times of less than a second is you can drive the Roadster in your company’s FAVR plan. However, the reimbursement rate you receive may not reflect total ownership costs.
